Christmas Market in Cologne?

Can anyone recommend a hotel for the Christmas Market that is reasonably priced for a twin room b&b for early December? Don't want to end up miles away from the market which is the risk with cheap holidays. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Sorry can't recommend hotel cos i stayed out of the town and just caught a taxi in every day. (Taxis are cheap) There are five markets and they all get packed especially the one next to the Cathedral. The market next to the chocolate museum you have to pay to go in. Also there is a little train that takes you from the main markets up to the choc. museum don't bother with it, it cost's more than going by taxi. Anyway have a good time it is lovely and the Germans are very polite and friendly. P.S Make sure you have a big big breakfast it will set you up for the day and wrap up warm cos it gets mighty cold.

there is a good hotel in Ruebener strasse that is just to the rear of the neumarkt, but i forget its name but it is very good and the only one down there so you cant go wrong,i used to use it a lot a while ago but have since been relocated to the Hyatt on the river near the messe,my tours were always happy there so give it a try,i seem to think the hotel in Reubener strasse is called the Leonnet, and there is also a good one that is about 50 meters away from the dom {cathedral} its called the city, tho i never used it but my colleague has,,the markets in Cologne are excellent the nuemarkt the huemarkt the altmarkt are all good, and the locals are really good to be around they are pleasant and very friendly, dont forget to sample the gluwine its a real spicey bodywarmer,,and remember it gets bleedin cold there so wrap well up,,enjoy it ....

The Christmas Market on the Altermarkt is picturesquely situated in Cologne's old town. By way of the shopping streets "Hohe Strasse" and "Schildergasse", you come to the Christmas Market at Neumarkt and then on to the "Fairytale Market"at Rudolfplatz. At the foot of Cologne Cathedral, you will find the fascinating Christmas Market "am Dom".

Laterooms is quite a good site - and if you dare wait until very late, sometimes has bargains. See link below for the hotels they can offer - "Miles" will be to the city centre, which is near enough where the market is.

HI,

sorry, i have been to cologne several times because of working purposes. The Ibis was very close to the city. It would be a good advice to try to book a hotel close to the city, the train station, cathedral and the shopping area, then you´ll be also close to the christmas markets.

I am sorry, that i can´t recommend an good hotel, but keep looking maybe at
www.hrs.de
or the tourists sites of cologne..
http://www.bookings.de/city/de/cologne.en.html?aid=301584;label=Deutschland%7CKOln%7C%5Bhotel-kOln%5D
Here you´ll find hotels within a city map.

they are bothe mentioned here and i am sure you´ll find what you want there.

the youthhostels are a little bit out of town, but they have good and cheap public transports, especially in winter and christmas time.

enjoy your trip.

I've stayed a few times at the Dorint Novotel which is on Bayenstrasse, about a 12 minutre walk from the centre. Prices range depending on how early you book, it might not be as cheap as you are wanting but it is very nice. Probably not exactly what you're looking for but if you google hotels in Köln then you will find a huge range. Typing Köln rather than Cologne may also find you cheaper results because they will not so specifically aimed towards English-speaking tourists.
Whereever you stay your trip will be wonderful, Cologne is a brilliant, friendly city and the Christmas market will be like nothing you've ever seen (that is if you've never been to Germany at Christmas time before...). It truely magical!

wow christmas in cologne is great, all the good cookies, gluehwein, egg punch... the market itself is lovely!
anyways you should be able to book hotel rooms right in the heart of the town at reasonable prices as long as the booking is done in advanced.
try " www.hrs.de "
(as far as i can remember, they don't ask for credit card deposits, just the booking details.. which is surprising).

in case you get to cologne without any accomodation pre-arranged, i would try asking the "tourism bureau" opposite to the Hauptbanhoff/Dom, they're usually happy to help you

have fun
