Conditions for RN's in Germany?

I'm a UK national and have always been quite taken with Germany and hope to live/work there one day. Just wondering what the conditions are like for nurses?( I know from experience the pay/conditioons vary greatly from country to country). Also, is a really thorough knowledge of German language neccesary or would it be possible to get by with the basics? Thanks in advance for answers

Frackled is right. Nurses get a very lousy pay. And work isn't easy to get here anyway at the moment. They want you to work for almost nothing with countless overtime hours.
German language is a must!
We do have German nurses who went to Great Britain or Ireland as working time and pay are a lot better. I've watched an interview with a German nurse who didn't want to go on working here because of this situation. She went over to England earning about twice or three times as much as she did in Germany! And she needn't work overtime hours as well.
I have a similar job. I'm not a nurse but a Arzthelferin. This profession is not known in some other countries. I basicly work the same but I'm not trained to do exact the same job as a nurse does. A bit hard to understand. But I work in a hospital as well and I know what I'm talking about.
You'd better stay in UK because you do have better working conditions over there. Believe me!

For a nurse, very good language skills are necessary to work in Germany. No matter where you would work, whether in the hospital or a nursing home, for both you need to understand the doctors orders, and the patients request,as well as people who are calling in on the phone.
Unfortunately, pay is not very high for nurses in Germany. Depending on what tax class you will fall into, you'd get out with 800 - 1.000 Euros to take home for a month.
