Yes, of course. You should use hard-cooking potatos*, boil them, and let them cool over night. Then just make potato salad with oil and vinegar, some salt and black pepper. Everything else is unncessary; You can add cucumberrs, sliced boiled eggs, or whatever you like; but just don't mess up the salad by using French dressing or McD's stuff on it. Oil and Vinegar, that's it.

*: Can someone tell me the exception about tomatoes and potatoes, where there's no e? I'd be thankful.

a simple potatoe salad in Germany contains cooked potatoes, onions, pickles and some of that pickle juice and mayonaise, some salt & pepper. That's the easiest recipe I know for a quick and delicious potatoe salad recipe.

I'd agree with Priscilla... that's the most common variety (some people also add either hard boiled eggs or bacon to it). It's also the kind of salad you can purchase in HUGE buckets at wholesale!!!

check out the web site below for an authentic german potato salad recipe.

It is easy to make and tastes fantastic.

I am afraid the simple German potato salad is not so simple as it is believed. Depending on the region you will find many different ways to prepare it.

In many places of south Germany for example it will be prepared with vinegar and vegetable oil, in north Germany it will be prepared with Mayonnaise.

My Mother in law comes from the ex German region in Poland called then Schlesien (ex-Silesia) and she prepares it with mayonnaise, eggs, carrots and Gherkins.

If I am not wrong you speak some German, so you can find some good recipes of "Kartoffelsalat" (potato salad) in the following links. The german indications are very easy to follow, I think you will not have too much trouble with it:

We always use cooked potatoes, onion, pickles and mayonaise, salt and pepper. Occasionaly we put some pieces of small chopped ham in there and / or a hard boiled egg on top as decoration.
But the basics are potatoes, onion, pickles, pickle juice, mayonaise, salt and pepper!!!!

Hey breezer,
you are in Bavaria. Go to buy a hot dog and potatoe-salad at the next "Imbiss" look what is in and then you cook it.
