i live here.. some ppl say the city is too small (1/2 mill. ppl) but many I know say it's the best one to live in germany, seriously. many students, good mix of ppl from east/west germany and many foreign ppl. Lot of culture, and stuff you can do to relax; downtown is compact and good to reach. pretty alternative. don't need a car, bycicle will do or public. Besides the weather is great in the summer compared to other places in germany. on the other hand it's flat here but mountains are not far (1hour).. good for the winter.

Yes its the only place in Europe with the educated homeless.A few years ago on a freezing December night we had a couple of hours lay over at the station before our connecting train, taking shelter in the waiting room we were approached by a local drunk. We used the stock excuse sorry we do not speak German,at which he went into word perfect English,we were to say the least taken aback and now have totally diferent view on homeless people,in particular German ones.

I live about thirty Kilometres from Leipzig, actually I live on Leipziger Strasse. I walk out my front door, turn right and follow my street right to Leipzig. Very nice city and one of the cheapest 'Gross Stadts' to live in. Shopping is good, you can actually spend most of the day in the train station shopping.
