There are so many of them but when I was in the military years ago, living in Germany there was one town that we visited every autumn during our fall exercises.

It is very accomodating, the people are very friendly and you'll find many different gasthaus' to stay in or eat at. They even have their own local brewery. Be sure to have dinner at Willie's weinstube.
You can get there by flying directly to Munich and from there it is about 1 hour drive north. Enjoy yourself!
