Do you like the movie "Das Boot" ?

I just saw it. If I was in the navy I sure as hell would never want to be in a submarine.

Been too many years since I last viewed it. I did see it listed on TV the other day. I have much respect for those who are submariners.

I'm a German, and I even saw "Das Boot". The prop is built up in the Bavaria movie theme park at Munich, and you can walk (or swing, like they did in "Das Boot") through it. That thing really is made of solid steel! When I walked through it (together with other people), I just waited for the alarm siren and the red light, and someone shouting "dive! dive!". But gladfully, they didn't go that far.

Before "Das Boot" became a movie it was (is) a book, written by Lothar Guenter Buchheim. In reality past HE was the Lt.Werner who was played by Herbert Groenemeyer in the movie. He was a "reporter of war" and his order was to prepare a picture book about the german submarines - as a advertising action of course. The whole edition was destroyed during WWII but a remake was printed in the 80s.
The title is " Jaeger im Weltmeer" like "Hunter in the ocean"
You can buy and enjoy it. Its a very good addition to the movie

I remember seeing it in the movie theater when it came out back in 1981 or `82. I fell asleep while watching it. It seemed to be a really long movie. No way would I want to be in a submarine for any length of time, either. I got to go in one once at the Baltimore Harbor, and that was enough for me.

That is a GREAT movie. You root for the Germans all the way...they make it back to port safe and get shot up by Mustangs and the sub sinks...hah hah hah.

It was a great movie from the German soldier in the U-Boats life and how much different they were from the Nazi's and you really do route for them!!

Great flic!

Totally equal were you are. To be killed and even to kill is not a funny thing.
No, I don't like "Das Boot". I prefer "Roaming Diamond" or "Crocodile Dundee".
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany
