Do you think it is good to have friends in other countries?

Do you think that it helps culture you better in life if you experience the life of other countries and make friends there that last a life time?

Has any one else had this fortune of making friends in another country you see often enough and stay in contact with?

For me Germany is a Second home, does any one else have a country they consider a second home as well?
Additional Details
tryp - sorry already moved back to USA not going again until this Fall probably.

I was never in the Military and BOTH my former German GF's were both of age so I find American woman far more materialistic and untrustworthy in GENERAL than German Woman. I much prefer a German woman any day to an American, just in every day conversation. If your Hubby was 20 thats three years. IF he was 40 than I see your point for sure!

Definitely!!! I think the more friends you can get in other countries, the better. You are able to learn about other cultures from a reliable source, and you generally open your mind to other ways of thinking, to other people in general, and change stereotypes and myths about others.

I have friends in Germany, where I was the first American they ever met! We would talk about the stereotypes we had about each other. for example: many Germans that I met thought that Americans were ALL shallow, close-minded, bible thumping, Bush Lovers. Just like many Americans think that ALL Germans are Oktoberfest loving, sauerkraut eating, xenophobes. But getting to know one another definitely brought about opportunities to learn the truth about each other.

P.S. Yes, I do agree that many American women are materialistic, shallow twits, but not all of us are, honest!!

Yes it's good to have friends in other countries that way you get to know what the people really think of your country and not the opinion of talking heads on the news or special interest groups.

As for women I have a fondness for the SCOTS and IRISH .beautiful classy feminine intelligent and can back you up in a brawl .What more could you ask from a women LOL

Umm... I got a little confused on the ongoing debate sort of thing going... I'm just going to say: Heck Yes!!! It is totally woth it to have friends in other countries. It broadens your point of view. If I have any critiscism of my fellow Americans it is that they don't know anything about the world, and most of our issues stem from that. I think if we travelled, we'd have a better idea of what the world is like, and that would improve our country domestically, as well as its international standing. I have friends all over the world, literally, and a great number in Germany. It is wonderful to them, and I am blessed. Like you, I would consider Germany a second home. I have a family there, I have friends, and I felt so at home, after only a month- more at home than I felt after a year here. People can say whatever they want about the Germans- I know they are great people!

tryptic2012
i think it's a nice idea.
btw i'm coming to germany soon. can i stay on your couch for a few months?

Daniel L
Sure it does....

I even have friends in the US (of all countries) :))

Can't say anything about German woman in comparison to US ones. BUT I can compare them to Australian ones, and I have to say Australian Woman come with more style (clothing) and its hard to find one that doesn't shave there arm pits, were as my 30 Year experience with German woman shows that they are not very feminine.
YEAH go ahead PROTEST ...doesn't change it, its my opinion.

My husband was over there for the military. he was a 22 year old that was legally allowed to date and have sex with a 17 year old girl. i think that germanys messed up and has really bad laws to allow this. i think that you should stick to friends in the usa!
