Does anyone know of ways for an American to work in Germany perferably in the Stuttgart area?

I am graduating from the University with a marketing major and german minor and not sure where to look for work. I've already tried monster.de and studentjobs24.de.

There are many American companys in Stuttgart. Search the net and apply there. They might also need your language knowledge.

If you want to live and work in Germany you either must be fluent in German or work for the US Military. Also consider that it is difficult to obtain work permission here.

Another address is Meine Stadt:

Yay, without EU work permit it's kind of difficult. The American companies in Germany love native English speaker who knows German language (I worked for HP, DOW, Agilent and also US Army contractor in Germany) but they aren't always willing to help you obtain work permit unless you're an expert, and freshly university grad does not really count as an expert.

However my friends did this, they got jobs at German corporation in the US (Lufthansa, Daimler, Bosch, Siemens etc) and worked their way to get transfered to Germany. Maybe you should try Monster.com instead, and look for international jobs.

Or, if you're willing to work for the government like the other suggested, I think you will have better chances. You need to have patience.
Try this http://cpolrhp.belvoir.army.mil/eur/index.htm

You could try getting a government contractor job. There are a lot of positions over there through the military too.

I'm trying to do the same thing. I'll try to keep track of the answers you receive! Good luck!

I think the easiest way would be on a military base, and yes, there is one in Stuttgart. Type into a search engine, Civilian Human Resources Command, or Civilian Jobs in Germany. I used to know the link but don't have it anymore. I bet you'd be able to find something. Good Luck, we are military in Germany, we love it here.
Oh, someone above me had the right site address:

Or try this site:

Where are you graduating from? Uni in Germany, uni in the rest of Europe or uni in the USA?

The best way to obtain a work permit in Germany is to graduate from a uni there. After graduation, you are given one year to find a job that fits your qualifications. If you find such a job, you get an instant work permit.

So if you are graduating from an university in the USA, you might check out the possibility of doing a master degree in Germany.

Also the biggest elephant in the Stuttgart area is Daimler-Chrysler. Maybe you should apply with them in the US and then seek a transfer? The German section in Stuttgart also seeks "Werkstudenten" with an international background. Maybe you could get an internship with them?

If you are already in Germany, you can also do freelance work. A work permit for this kind of work is relatively easy to obtain in Germany. Just come to Germany as a regular tourist, then go to your local Ausländerbehörde and apply for a residency permit and a work permit for freelance work. You might be forced to teach English for a living, but once you are there it might be easier for you to find a job.
