Does anyone know what the waitlist is for Baumholder Germany? |
We are moving to Baumholder in July, my husband, myself, our son and 2 dogs. We are trying to plan accordingly but the one question we can't seem to get a handle on is how long the waitlist is for housing. Also if anyone has an opion if it is better to sale our vehicles here in the states and buy one there or if we should just ship our vehicles.
We're excited about this move but we're having trouble gathering information about this area. Any information is greatly appreciated. |

We moved to Baumholder about a month ago and were in housing within a week. At the moment there is a lot of available housing because a lot of the people are deployed at the moment. We were told this will change in the coming months when they get back. We sold our cars before moving and baught a junker. It is really up to you. The people here are friendly, but there is not a lot to do on post. The best bet is to travel. We are really close to France, Holland, Brussels, and Luxemburg. |

Not sure about the housing wait list. When I moved to Schweinfurt, Germany there was a 2-6 month waiting list depending on the housing area you wanted. We opted to live about 30 minutes away (in government housing) so we could move right away. As far as your vehicles, it would depend. Do you owe any loans for them? Depending on you insurance you may not be able to take them if you do. USAA will allow you to though so you might just have to switch auto insurance. I would keep one dependable car to ship over there. You can find some decent cars there but you can also find some lemons too. Do both of you know how to drive a stick shift (manual)? Unless another soldier has brought theirs from the states and is selling it there or you buy a brand new car from AAFES then you will not be able to find an automatic. Those are some things to think about, but again, I would at least ship 1 car over and either sell or store the other car. Good Luck and have fun in Germany! |

I would keep waiting. Baumholder puts a vacuum into sucks.
Ship you cars or sell them? You choice. If you have a good car ship it if you do not sell it then buy junker. Don buy a car within 20 miles of Baumholder. Go to the next largest city and buy a used car off a dealership lot. You may pay more but you should get a car that will last you your tour. Buy a junker off your buddy let him kiss ya because you are doing him a big favor. I know you are not going to listen to me, so I told you so. If it does no tpass inspection do not buy it. |
