Driving in Berlin?

I am an American and will be in Berlin for a few days. I need to rent a car for a side trip I am going to make. I thought it would be easiest if I rented a car at the hotel and parked it at my hotel for a few days until I leave for my camping trip. Is driving around in Berlin a real hassle? I have driven in Japan, Thailand, NY & LA and also across the US so I am not inexperienced, but concerned about understanding street signs. (I do not speak/read/understand German.)

I'm really an experienced driver with more than 500000 Kilometers driven in Germany and Belgium (where I've lived and worked) and in Denmark, Netherlands, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, and Czechia, where I have been on vacation with my car. Although I like traveling by car cross country, I have always preferred to leave my car in the hotel garage, if staying in big cities. For a foreigner, cities like Paris, London, Barcelona, Prague, or Vienna, those are the ones I have visited, are better to be explored by usage of public transport systems. Berlin has an excellent one. You can buy a ticket for 6,50 € valid for the whole day, which enables you to use all subways, tramways, and buses within the city and don't have to worry about finding parking place or drinking a beer to your meal. For departing to your camping trip you can order a rental company to get your hired car to the hotel you're staying in on the departure day.
