As everyone else stated, German is a very difficult language to Learn. I have lived in Germany 8 months studying daily and I can only speak in certain situations.
Your best bet is to study travel German and buy yourself a good travel dictionary.

Answering you there are many fast ways to learn some basic words and phrases from a laptop software or site, books, cds, mp3s, dvds. The best is a fast tutor if you can afford and find one.
Dont use online translators they don't work well but get a dictionary electronic and pocket.
