First day at school in germany?

I was brought up in germany and I can remember my first day at school having a large cone filled with sweets - does any one have any more details about this tradition and does it still go on many thanks in advance

They are called "Schultuete", that means schoolcone, or schoobag.
When I got mine a long time ago, I received lots of candy, some small toys, and everything I needed as far as school supplies go.

It still goes on, my best friend got one on her first day filled with sweets because her dad is german. And this was in canada so yes it still goes on.

This is still a custom here in Germany although a lot of people are not putting so many sweets in them any more. They tend to put more school supplies in.

My kids both had them when they started school and they are still on display in their rooms (they have both finished school and are in vocational training now).

i went to an international school in germany so i didnt get this but many of my friends i gained later when to german kindergartens and they had cones filled with treats. It is a tradition that stills goes on but im not sure why. I assume it is to encourage kids to learn :)

yeah your first day of kindergarten there u get treats in a cone, it is a tradition in germany. i learned this in my exploratory language class
