From Frankfurt...Kiel? |
Would you recommend the train, renting a car or taking a bus to the northern part, Kiel, Germany or even fly? Thanks |

Well Renting a car is by far most the most expensive of them.
The bus is much slower than the train is and the train rates can be fairly decent depending if you buy a ticket, get a rail pass, or a bahncard for discounts. The train leaves directly from the Airport now and Kiel would probably take you ten hours or so by train. You want to look for ICE trains, they are the fast ones.
Flying I think would be good if you were going to land there first and not in Frankfurt but if you have to go to Frankfurt a connecting flight will be more than a train ticket I am sure but would be much faster.
I guess it depends on how fast you need to be there, if no time limit then I would take the train, if in a hurry a connecting flight to the nearest airport. |

Alwin is right, take the train, you have a connection from FRA to Kiel about all 20 min. The train needs about 5 1/2 hours thirty minutes less 30 min more, for you have to change the train in Hamburg-Altona. Maximum price I have seen is 117 EUR 2nd class simple.
Since October 2006 there are no airline connections to Kiel.
There are no nationwide bus lines operating in Germany, except an enterprise in Berlin operating with an allied licence. |

Hi from Germany.
Taking the train: Yes, always, and to foreigners even more.
Renting a car: If you're used to how Germans drive, sure. If you're not, take a train.
Flying: no. Germany is too small for that. I'd recommend flights from Frankfurt to Berlin or Munich or Hamburg or any other important city, or to somewhere else in Europe (Rome, Amsterdam), but not Kiel. I'm not even sure if they have a decent airport.
Busses: No way. I've used some of them, like from Bavaria to Berlin, or Berlin to Hannover, and would never use them again.
So my recommendation would be the train. |

Lufthansa has some great specials going on, but if you consider the time it takes to check in and everything, taking the train might not only be cheaper but faster as well. A rental car would give you the most independence, but would definitely be more costly. |
