As already mentioned "Sputnik" is a Russian word for "satellite" meaning "companion". In East Germany (former German Democratic Republic) a couple of things, bars, bands etc where also named "Sputnik" as people where exposed to the Russian language/culture (e.g. Russian Army was based there) until the unification of West and East Germany in 1990.

spotnik is not a word in germany. but if and you spell it SPUTNIK
it is a word from russian and means in german 'begleiter' in english 'escort'

sputnik was also the first 'art satelite' (1957) in space but i"m not sure

Anja H
Not a German word to my knowledge. the only thing which comes close to this is Sputnik, which was the name of russian satellites.

Sorry
