Maja Besser-Ossi
It happened by accident since that guy G.Schabowski told East Germans that the wall would be open to travelers right now in november 1989 instead that the wall would be open for travelers within the next days.
The fascist imperialists took the chance and abolished the wall right that night.

@ Whyat Earp you seem to still think world history only exists from USA point of view.
The USA is not the centre of the universe not even of this world.

I really whished the wall were still there the GDR was so much better than it is today.
Besser Ossi is correct it was Mr Schabowski who ruined our state

Wyatt Earp
Well, first came JFK (US prez) who stood at the Berlin Wall back in 1963 and declared, "Ich bin ein Berliner!"

Then came Ronald Reagan (US prez) who put his cowboy boots up on the presidential desk in the Oval Office and dared his Soviet counterpart with his taunt, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down the wall!"

And then came Mikhail Gorbachev (Soviet prez and recipient of first old Reagan's taunt and then the Nobel Peace Prize) who muttered something like, "I'm down with it, dude, just go for it!" and then went back to bed and had a sound sleep while Germans, led by their hulk of a Chancellor at the time, Helmut Kohl, went for it with pick axes and jackhammers and by daybreak the wall was gone, all its fragments carted off by the wall tear-downers as their own piece of history...

As far as I know, scrawny old Erik Hoennecker (the East German bloke) didn't really have much left to say and just shriveled up and faded away into a footnote in history: his day was done.
