German cities in the mountains? |
I'm going to be doing an internship in Germany in March and I would like to go to a city in the mountains (preferably Bavaria). What are some good cities that have companies who might need computer engineers/programmers? |

In your case I would go to Munich. Munich is not in the mountains, but unemployment is very low in Munich so it should be easy to find a job. And the Alps are very close, it is easy to reach them in about 1-2 hours by train from Munich.

In the mountains . . . I doubt that there would be any computer firms. In Schongau, I know a guy got a job there as a computer technician. Most of the cities in the mountains cater to tourism.
My son is studying computer science here. He probably is looking at working in Munich or Stuttgart although he will probably be offered a job with MAN in nearest town to us.
Maybe you might have luck in Innsbruck or Salzburg, but those cities are in Austria. Although they cater to tourism as well, they are have some industry work there. |

I agree with what someone else already said and would go for Munich. It's not far from the Alps. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a really pretty little town bordered by the Alps (about an hour from Munich), but I don't know that they would have any companies there that would hire you, it's pretty touristy. |

If it would only be that easy, every German would have his dream job at his dream location. I mean, since Germany is obviously the land where you can pick and choose, judging from the questions that are and have been posted in the last few weeks.
(Sorry, not by you, I know!) |

Garmish and Burchesgarden are the two that come to mind.
but both are relatively close to each other. No matter where you end up in Germany, everything is relatively close so that you can take a train and take a weekend trip to the mountains. Don't forget to go to Neuschwanstein castle. This is probably the most famous of the German castles and should not be missed. This is the famous castle in the mountains that Disney modeled his Cinderella castle after.
I lived in germany for three years and this is still one of my absolutely favorite places. It's breathtakingly beautiful!!! |
