German homework help?

I have to analyze the poem "Postkarte an Junge Menschen". Can someone tell me what it is about. What does "Gebt nicht nach" in the first line mean?

Lebt ohne Furcht."

"Gebt nicht nach" means "Do not give in".
(the verb is "nachgeben")
It tells the readers not to give in to allures, to think, not to believe to readily without thinking about it first.

"Don't give in, like we did,
don't follow the temptations, think, refuse, refuse,
decline.
Think, before you say yes,
do not believe at once, do not believe the obvious either,
to believe makes you drowsy, and you should be awake.
Start with a blank paper, write the first words on your own.
do not let anyone dictate.
Listen well, listen for a long time, attentively
do not believe the reason we submitted to.
Start with the silent revolt of thinking, verify
and discard
Slowly form the Yes of your life.
Do not live like we did.
Live without fear."

It could refer to war and war propaganda.Check the authors background to verify that.

EDIT : Thanks Sauerkraut, I'm flattered...

Answerer 1 gave you a SUPER answer....I'm not even going to try to improve on that !!!

ARRGH!!!

The poem is about thinking. People are advised not just to agree dumbheadedly to everything that others say, but to think before making a foolish decision. They are also advised to do the first step themselves, to make their own rules, and not just obey the rules of the others. They should think and ask until they have found the answer.
