German law regarding drinking on busses?

My mates and I are going to frankfurt at New Year but unfortunately we land at Frankfurt Hahn which is 75 miles away.

As we have to sit on a bus for 1 3/4 hour, I was wondering if its legal to consume alcohol on a public bus.

Thanks in advance

Donnie

Varies, depending on the transport company. There is no official or state law about this. Having traveled a lot with Deutsche Bahn's trains and busses, I know that drinking SOME alcohol will mostly be tolerated, as well as eating a sandwich or such. By "some" I mean a can of beer or two. I think nobody will prohibit you from drinking them, but please consider that getting drunk in public and littering the coach with the remains of your McDonald's food is considered indecent behavior EVERYWHERE. Please also be aware that there might be children with their mothers around who might start complaining about you for acting as a bad example. Always make sure that you have some sort of "public support" for your party. That kind of support can be gained, for instance, by offering fellow travelers a beer.

No, its is not allowed. If you do, you might be asked to leave the bus.

Possibly, in the worst case, you won't be even allowed to eat (e.g. ice cream or anything nasty fatty...) A sandwich should be ok I think /hope

Zoe Dot
It probably is allowed. It is allowed on trains in Germany and pretty well anywhere else.

I've been here in Germany for the last 4 months, and the majority of my culture shock has been related to the liberal attitude towards drinking on public transport.

If you are taking airport shuttle from Hahn to Frankfurt, chances are that you will be sitting amongst 4 elderly Germans on a very large bus. So as long as you're not disturbing the other patrons terribly, you won't have a problem "vorglüen" on your way into the city.

6am flight from Hahn and half the people in the airport we're already enjoying a cold one. And on the way home from Oktoberfest, I think they kicked you off the train if you DIDN'T have beer.

good luck!
