Question 1: Apfelschorle is a mixture (50:50) of apple juice and mineral water. Bavarians (mostly) and Austrians call it "Gespritzten". But they also say "Gespritzten" to a mixture of Weinschorle (red or white wine + mineral water). Or any other juice mixed with mineral water.

Question 2: There are many brands of beers both in Germany and Austria. Example: Andechser Bier, Beck's, Münchner Löwenbräu, Münchner Hofbräu, Stuttgarter Hofbräu - just to name a few German ones. A wellknown Austrian beer is called Gösser Märzen.
Famous meals in Germany are Sauerkraut, Bratwurst. Every region has its own special foods but the ones I mentioned are the most famous ones. We also have the most different sorts of breads ( more than 250 different ones) and sausages (more than 1,500 different ones). Too many to list up.

Question 3: I'm from south western part of Germany living close to the Black Forest. I also have relatives in Austria and friends in Switzerland. So I understand most of their "language". When listening to Swiss German I have to admit it's really hard to understand and a challenge. The Austrian German is rather easy to understand for me - even if they use different words for certain things as we do in Germany.

to 1: Austrians and Bavarians call it "G'spritzer".

to 3: I'm Bavarian, and I find Austrian very easy to understand, except for some special words like the "Paradeiser", which is a "Tomate" to everyone else. I'm having some trouble with Swiss German, however, and with northern dialects ("Plattdeutsch").

As to everything else, I agree with Stiffler.

1. Yes pronounced apfel-shoal-a. My wife loves it! (she be german)./Aussies dont know.

2.Hefewiezen is good stuff but i prefer kristalweizen. I stay away from Pils that **** is gross. as for brands hmmm pauliner is ok ther is this brand i find myself always craving and drinking called sandwald (or sanwald). I lover Jegershnitzel the best! Make sure you get some Spatzel too them noodles are great! I think they only serve them in the south cause they are Schwabish. Shwienhax is also good its just a pork leg. I cant spell it but it is pronounced kanoodel that **** is AWESOME TOO! In the south they even serve Gulash, which i dont think is german but is pretty much part of the culture now (post cold war) make sure you get some made of deermeat! oh and my wife got me hooked on white aspargus soup forgot the name but its good. Man i need to get back to germany already! im hungry

3.i understand some german when i hear it as for by aussies and swiss hmm dont know i was way to drunk at the fests to tell.

2.famous beer: Radeberger, Freiberger, almost all the ones named by ppl before are today owned by some netherlander's company, so they are not truely german anymore because they don't have to be aware of the "German Reinheitsgebot", so its not really german beer anymoFamousouse cuisine: german national food: eisbein, sauerkraut and klösse
austrian national food: kaiserschmarrn
3) i'm german and i think its really easy to understand the german and austrian dialects. its getting pretty hard to understand the so called "schwitzerdütsch" because its more like a mix out of german, french and something else

Q.1) Apfelschorle is a drink that is made of 50% applejuice and 50% carbonated water. I have no idea what Austrians call it.

Q.2) Famous beers from Germany: Becks, Warsteiner, Holsten, Franziskaner, and many many more
Famous foods: Käse Spätzele, Wiener Schnitzel, Weißwurst, Brezeln, Sauerkraut.

Q.3) I find it extremely difficult. It has some very strange vocabulary and they have different prononciations.
