German wedding theme? |
Hi everyone. So I am getting married in June and even though I live in California with my fiance we are going to travel all the way to Germany for this, because that's where most of my family is. His family is quite small, so it was the better choice.
Anyway, how can I make a theme out of our two heritages? America and Germany. I'm having trouble getting inspired! How could I incorporate this into the decorations, the invitations, and so on and so forth?
Does anyone have ideas?
Thanks so much :)
By the way, I know the German and American traditions, so I think I'm good on that. I can't think any further though ...
Lastly: I am from Hamburg. I do NOT want an Oktoberfest themed wedding, thanks. Additional Details Thanks, Otto! great ideas. Yes, it's going to be in a Restaurant in Hamburg actually. Anybody know if California has a peculiar name?^^ |

I would not make too much of the German-American thing. Flags or national symbols are unusual on German weddings. Prevent your decorations from drowning in Blue-White-Red / Black-Red-Gold, or at least prove that national symbols can be used very, very unobstrusive.
What about the less known attributes? I remember that the American states have peculiar names like Flickertail-, Bluegrass-, Lone-Star-State...
June is called the Month of the Roses in Germany. The days seem to have no end, and the nights are a joining of dusk and dawn. That's why bright colours and pastel shades have high season, when it comes to decorations.
Will your wedding be in the city of Hamburg, or did you choose an inn in the countryside? A modern building or a framework house with thatched roof? Make sure that you see photos of your festival room at first, and get an impression of its atmosphere. The place itself is decoration and canon No.1. (It can predetermine the style of your invitation cards.) Then choose the music. And don't forget, its's still a festive waltz that makes people dance.
Edit: California is "Golden State". Wow, that's going to be a gorgeous wedding! |

Easy. German food, and have the ceremony in English!
Because sorry to say, German food is better than American food. Even though I've only been in America for about four hours. We had chips :)
Sorry. In reality I have no idea. The best of luck for you and your fiance. |

Why do you need an American theme in Germany, make it a German wedding, Es ist das richtige Ding, für das Willen vom Vaterland zu machen. Amerika ist ein nicht ziemlich, als zu Deutsch passend. |
