I was born in 1988.
Can you please tell me why i should feel guilty?
Even in 1000 years people will ask the question to germans.
I don't care at all about it now. |

The majority of Germans alive today had nothing to do with either wars, or anything that their ancestors did to the Jews, so why stir up trouble... |

religion:do you feel guilty for almost every horrible incident to ever take place in history? |

Most people who actually lived during the time of the nazi regime are dead by now. I don't think that those who were born later should feel guilty for crimes which were done by their ancestors. I don't think that any US citizen will feel guilty of the crimes his ancestors did to the native Americans or afro Americans.
We are aware of our history. But I think feeling guilty is not appropriate for the present generation. |

That's a bit like asking English people if they feel guilty for what they did to the Africans, Indians and Irish; or asking the Spanish if they feel guilty about what they did to the natives of South America; or asking the French if they feel guilty about what they did to the Arabs of Northern Africa .... or if it boils down to it, asking any Catholic person if they feel guilty about the sexual abuse many priests inflicted on innocent children in their care.
In other words, it's an asinine and ignorant question. Get over it. |

No, I do not feel guilty because I am the 3.Generation after WWII and
I -personally- had nothing to do with it, but I feel saddened that something like this has happened to the Jews and yes, it was absolutely horrific.
I also feel bad for other genocide that is still happening nowadays in the world. |

i cant believe your asking this its an insult. not every german was responsible or for the holocaust. the correct question is if former nazis feel guilty. being german does NOT make you a nazi. |

No, not at all. I am a Maori from New Zealand with German and Scottish ancestary and very proud of that.
This question depending on how you respond can incite unsavoury comments as already witnessed here. Why should people of German origin today (today being the operative word) defend actions that occurred over 60 years ago.
I do not know of any nation or country that has not committed any attrocity (in general) and New Zealand is not exempt from this. It just happenes to be that in terms of genocide, WWII inflicted the highest fatality figures particularly where Jews are concerned.
For the record NOT all Germans during WWII were NAZI's, I have no wish to elaborate on this fact as this is a whole new issue which should be debated in another forum. |

I am not German. I live in Germany many years now. I think Germans have shown how to be very tolerant nation in this world today. I think Germans allow for many other voices to be heard. Sometimes, it takes a little longer to get something done. They may have a better chance at getting it right.
How many political parties does the USA have? How many parties actually run the country? In a country known for its democracy, does the USA really have a democracy?
If you are a American citizen, does the USA have a right to destroy two countries because of two buildings being destroyed? Were there ever WMD? Is a president above the law? Should a war be taken when there is no clearly defined mission? Terrorism is a crime, but not necessarily a ground for a war that envelopes all the innocent people on the ground of a planned war zone. Nobody goes downtown New York City and declares an all out war against drugs and gangs and takes out city blocks.
Remind you, I am also an US citizen.
Who is responsible for the many innocent who have died in the middle east these past 8 years? Do you feel guilty? |
|

Hell no
 |
the germans today didn't do anything against the jews, the germans from the 30s and 40s yes, but they are either old or gone by now.
Edit: no I didn't give u thumb down im not jewish why wont u believe me?? and please give danny a second chance he is depressed. |

Kelly, I see your name and I am really trying to not be stereotypical here but obviously you just started 3rd Grade World History and are a bit upset. (I promise that I am not making fun of you, I am just stating the obvious).
Listen, Germany's a great country with really great people. Don't judge an entire country based on something that happened long ago enough so someone born after WWII can very soon get a senior citizen's discount at Denny's.
All and I mean ALL major ethnic group's and religions have bad things in their history. They are so numerous that I won't even give any examples. We learn from them and do our best not to repeat the mistakes of those here before us. Emphasis on here before us. |

As a Jew, I'm offended that you asked such a narrow-minded, ignorant question.
The majority of Germans today are probably more remorseful and serious about the Holocaust than you are! I bet most of the people reading this question were born after WWII anyway. Why should they feel guilty for something that they had no part of? Get a life... |

Definitely no. I didn´t do anything to anyone of mosaic creed. I was born after the war.
Do you feel guilty about what the Americans did to the native Americans? What the white Americans did to the negro slaves?
I am very sorry about that what happened, the holocaust, but I am not guilty and so I can´t feel guilty.
Besides, the German State (never the eastern, communist state) paid more than enough to both the state of Israel and to jewish foundations. |

I can't believe I am even posting a reply to this. If your question is sincere, it has been answered very well by the posters above. If it was meant to stir up trouble or make me (or other Germans living today) responsible for what happened while my parents were just born - you won't go far - the answer is a clear "NO"!
We despise the cruelty of the Hitler regime and will forever pay reparations to Israel, plus build Holocaust memorials on every empty lot possible to satisfy Israels quest for keeping us on the guild trip. If you would follow politics, you would notice that today's Germany is among the most pacifistic countries in the world (remember who vehemently opposed the Iraq war before it started???).
I grew up in a Germany of tolerance, and I am proud of who I am and where I am from. |

Most Certainly, My 2 Grandfathers (both of whom are dead) regretted every following Hitler's orders, and they themselves hid the fact they were Jews. so yes, indeed they do, and i do regret my family, as a German born Citizen living in the USA |
