The funny thing about this question is that Schnitzel (the breaded kind of thing you all think of when hearing the word) is what should be correctly called a "Wiener Schnitzel" and as such originates in Wien = Vienna, which makes it Austrian, and not German at all.
And for the sake of argument: I prefer Käsespätzle. Or Sauerbraten.
