Germans who watch the American movie "Valkryie"? What do you think?

i'm from germany and all i can say is that the film made more of a hype for various things than its content is actually worth. they filmed scenes at original places where there was no need and people did not want them to ... so its absolutely more about advertising than about truth. yes there's some truth, but also lots of false claims. don't ask me too deep i'm more historian than a film geek, but look it up... its said (at least in german) somewhere what exactly. Cruise underscores the advertising point and i remember that the filmmaker already said he failed at doing the film right in almost all points.
there's nothing wrong with that statement... cruise is looking original in a still frame, nothing else. he's pathetic as an actor probably as he's privately nowadays.

having said that i've watched a lot of his films from topgun to eyes wide shut and he was a promising guy in earlier years... good looking one, still good looking... but you know... it's wasted when i look into my mirror.

'this is a true story. IF IRV had done some studying up on this he would have known that instead saying it is fake.

Hitler was saved because of many reasons...

One...they transferrred to wooden building instead of the concrete one...had it been in the other it would have killed everyone.

Second...the table was a breakaway. On the history channel they had things on this all month last month including setting up with the exact type table and had the briefcase NOT been changed from the spot it was in Hitler would have been dead. It would have splittered into his ribs and heart...but the table protected him actually because the briefcase exploded in the other direction. You would have to watch the history channel to see how painstakingly they did this to prove how it happened.

There were in fact 41 attempts on Hitlers life. People hated him..even the Germans..not just Jews. But they were like with Saddam...you didn't go against him no matter how much you hated him unless you wanted to end your life.

Many civilians and German soldiers died because of his paranoia on this subject....LEARN YOUR HISTORY!

My cousin married a german girl and her father was a body guard to Hitler and he absolutely HATED HIM...and if he could he would have killed him himself. MANY GERMANS felt that way....

You missed great opportunities last month as all month long it was history of attempts on his life etc.....

For me is is almost devastating that nobody was able to stop Tom Cruise from playing the role of Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg. I never liked Tom Cruise but this antipathy increased so much when I learned he is a major figure within Scientology. I think he is misusing Graf Stauffenberg's role in German history for his Scientology interests. To me Tom Cruise is a dangerous demagogue in disguise not as "efficient" as Joseph Goebbels (Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda) but getting closer.

The only positive effect of the movie in general might be that more Americans get an idea that not all Germans were Nazis and that the Third Reich is over now for more than 60 years!!! I definitely will not watch this movie.

I didn't watch it. I've had enough of "Schindler's List" with all its pathetic attitude; but it was Spielberg anyway. And I was born in 1967, and I'd like to repeat it: I ain't killed no jew. -- And I'm strongly in favor of that each country get their soldiers home as quickly as possible. I'm a patriot to my country but wouldn't defend it on foreign soil, and I hope (no, I KNOW) that many Americans think the same way.

A lot of Nazi's were good people same as a lot of Japanese who bombed us in Pearl Harbor. Depends on what side of fence you are looking over I guess. My grand father was a good person and former Nazi and was nothing but a soldier in the German army at the age of 17. He did not know what was going on and he was not an anti-semite either. He joined the party as most kids in high school did. He is friends today with his former neighbors a Jewish family that fled Germany before the worst of it. Tom Cruise however is a tool so I just can't bring myself to watch it.

I'm not german but I know a couple of german people. Some Germans tend to get offended when they are called Nazis and they try to prove the fact that they are not Nazis more than anything else. So if anything I'd say it's a blessing for them because they can use the movie as a reference to provide evidence to that germans arn't nazis. For everyone else who doesn't care about the nazi crap (including some germans) this is just one hell of a good movie!

My parents saw the movie, said it was great. But I do agree that Tom Cruize is a little crazy, and maybe he could have done better on the accent. But other than that they said it was a very good movie.
