For inexpensive dining I like the cafeteria at the Kaufhof at the Marienplatz in Munich very nice view from up there. In fact department store cafeterias are my number one recommendation for low cost meals anywhere in Europe. They are usually at the top of the store and tend to make use of the views. Plus rather than picking off a menu with no pictures at a place you're unfamiliar with, you just pick what looks good to you. Good place for a stop in ther afternoon for coffee and cake, tends to be cheaper than the conditorei( pastry shop). By the way, public restrooms are few and far between in Germany, so department store restrooms are a good tip for that....they are clean and you usually just tip the cleaning lady a few cents.
Another recommendation is any Wurst Imbiss for a quick and cheap snack. Warm Leberkaese on a roll with mustard which you will usually see advertised at any Metzgerei (butcher shop).
And for meals on the go: get picnick supplies at the grocery store.
As far as restaurant dining in the center of town, Donisl isn't too bad, Rathskeller is ok too. Anything that looks like it's run by a brewery and says that they serve Bavarian food is usually not too expensive. There are a ton of restaurants around Munich and they usually advertise their prices out front. You won't have a problem finding something. |

Hotel rooms in Munich run 200EU and up. strongly suggest you look in the suburbs, somewhere on the s-Bahn to get you into and out of the city easily. Last I was there I stayed at Hotel am Muhlbach, Heinach-Nicholas Str. 19 Olching bei Munchen.
Heidelberg, we were at Gasthaus Vierburgeneck, Heiterswiesenweg, Neckersteinach, and in Saltzburg - Hotel Pensione Goldenekrone, 47 Linzergasse, Salzburg.
Good Luck |

I can only help you with a general rule for the Salzburg bit (by the way, it's not in Germany, and neither is Strasbourg): Beware of most city-centre places as they are quite pricey. Especially during the festival, you'll and up paying an arm and half a leg for your food. As soon as you get just a few bus stops away from the centre, however, you'll find enough places with decent food at reasonably prices. If you plan to order Salzburger Nocken for dessert, be warned: It's so rich, you'll wish you had skipped the main course. |
