Germany or Deutschland?

I would like to setup a German webpage in extentsion to my main website.

Since I've a category by country, should I display as Germany or Deutschland?

Be aware that the audience is for people in German.

By the way, what is the most popular search engine in Germany?

When doing serach in search engine, do you commonly use German language or English language?
Additional Details
Thank you everyone for the feedback.

Perhaps the best way to judge is get my Germany site up and ask you guys to have a look.

Currently the Germany site is a mix of English and German. I'll ask my network provider if they prefer all the text in German.

I'll also get your precious opinion whether to make it all in German.

If it needs to be all in German, I may need some help here to translate the English text into German.

I'll keep you guys posted once the Germany site is available.

Thanks friends.

Well it depends, what you are intending. If you want to express that you are doing international business, then use Germany. If the intension is, to have German contact persons, German staff, your whole response will be German, then use Deutschland.

But be aware of the Umlaute as ä, ö and ü and this special double s sign ß (actually spoken as sz).

My personal favorite search engine is yahoo.de, but google is the no. 1 concerning the number of accesses.

And furthermore be aware, that a lot of Germans may have some english knowledge - at least, I do ;-))

best regards

if you're targeting Germans, use DE ... i personally use Google, but i know a lot of people that use altavista... i always search in the language that i want results in...

I would use Deutschland since it's for Germans. if you're a German you will search using the german language and not a language you don't know.

Anne
hey there,

I would use Germany, as your side is generally in Enlish (I guess), everyone knows what Germany means maybe you could put "auf Deutsch" / "in German" in brackets behind, but if you have categorized all the countries with the English word itr might look funny

the most popular search engine is google, I personally use yahoo, which probably ranks 2, which language I use depends on the topic is it German I use German is it more international I usually use English

greets from Germany

Clearly Deutschland. German's use also google,Yahoo.de etc. First I look up the german sites and if I can't get a satisfactory result I try the english one's.

Mightymo
Deutschland. I don't know the most popular search engine in Germany. Maybe web.de, yahoo.de and Google. If I use Yahoo I search in german.

Tanja S
use Germany..everyone knows that it means Deutschland, the most popular search engine still might be Google.

If your audience is German, use "Deutschland". On the other hand, if it is a technical or scientific audience, they will be proficient in English in most cases.
Most popular search engines in German are Google, Yahoo and Web.de, the latter is a German only search engine.
When Germans use a search engine, they will do this in their own language, of course. Specific technical or scientific terms may be searched in English.
