Make sure to tell your bank you will be traveling to Europe well in advance before you travel, so they can set a flag on your account. Otherwise they might lock your account if they see someone os getting money out of your account, but from a European location, thinking someone stole your card or it is some kind of fraud or something. Usually they'll be fine and just ask you from when to when you are traveling, and make sure everybody working with your account will know what is going on, so that you don't sit in Europe having no access to your money all of a sudden. But you can pull money out of (almost) every ATM. Ask your bank for their partner bank in Europe or Germany, as they will sometimes have lesser fees for pulling money out of your account when you do it at an ATM of their partner bank. Also ask if the fees will be a set percentage of the amount you pull from your account or a set fee (which is more often the case) Say, if you pull 100.00€ from your account, and their fee is 5%, you pay 5€, and if you pull 200€, your fee is 10€, and so on. Now, if their fee is set at five Euros (or five dollars, or whatever) per withdrawal, and you pull 500€, the fee you have to pay is still just 5€. So that can be a very important thing to ask, as this can add up quickly.
Other than that: Do not expect every small shop to accept every credit card, and don't expect them to take credit cards for every amount. Some shops (especially gas stations, in case you want to rent a car and drive) have an "at least" amount (mostly it's like 20 to 30 Euros) before they allow any other way of payment other than cash.
The Eurail pass only will pay off if you plan to really travel extensively, otherwise, there are special offers and stuff one can book with the German Bahn, and they routinely sell tickets to places like Paris or Amsterdam, so this won't be a problem. I gave you the link for their web page in my answer to your other question already.
Anyway, I hope you'll have fun and enjoy the experience! |

1 euro is about 1 dollar and 30 cents
further more if you have a maestro, master or any other credit card sign on your bank cards then you can pin at any ATM machine there.
I don't know of an Eurual Pass, do you mean Eurail pass? do you intend to travel to other european countries??
A eurail pass is a pass that gives you acces to the train system in europe, with it you can travel to different countries by train, depending on the price you pay.
Might i refer the Netherlands to you? Amsterdam is really worth seeing. |
