If you carry a small backpack around during the day, that is perfectly normal. If you are going out in the evening, just go back to the place you are staying (or even the train station) to stow away your bag for the evening.
Shoes are shoes - you will not notice a difference.
The best place to grab a beer is the legendary Hofbrauhaus. Beers are served in large one-litre steins. Everyone sits on benches and drinks to the oompa band. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. As for clubs, just walk around the Karlsplatz area. |

Just wear comfortable shoes because you will do a lot of walking. It's been a while since I've gone so I don't know of any clubs but beer won't be a problem it's everywhere. |

Bavaria has very strict regulations about weapons, so you probably shouldn't carry a switchblade knife to avoid trouble with the police. A Swiss Army knife will be okay, however.
Germans usually wear sneakers, try some Nikes. I'm not sure whether they're still "in style", but you can't go too wrong with them. Absolutely avoid WHITE SOCKS! They'll glow in the dark when lit by UV rays, and most clubs and bars use some kind of UV lighting. |

I am from Berlin, so we dress quiet scruffily here;) Some guys like those yachting shoes, some wear moccasins, sneakers. Depends. Most likely - good comfy shoes for walking. |

I disagree about going to the Hofbrauhaus. It was extremely busy, the most touristy place you could possibly go in Munich, and we had terrible service.
For an authentic German drinking experience, I would go to Augustinerbrauhaus. If you stay in a hostel, they should be able to give you directions. It's where the locals go, so not touristy. Order a liter of Edelstoff. It's the best beer in the world! :) |

In case you are worried about being an obvious victim for pickpockets with a backpack, be assured that Munich is an extremely safe city. Nobody will even notice if you just carry a normal backpack around.
There are no special shoe conventions in Germany. And you get into most bars and restaurants with normal sneakers. Though American tourist are easily spottet by their Reebocks or running shoes and shiny white socks, so you may want to reconsider that choice ;-) |

As far as backpacks are you referring to like a hiking back pack?
On one hand I would say yes in that case as you do not want anything with wheels due to cobblestone roads.
However I have heard lots of stories about pick pockets and backpacks
I doubt you would be able to get into a club carrying a backpack as well. . |
