Well, if I could do it all over again . . . I wish I was stationed in Heidelberg. There are a lot of english speaking people there. The US military Central Command is there so I presume I could have gotten a job with the military after I got out. The area is beautiful and runs along a river. It is a university town with all of its cafes.

Fairly priced? The cheaper the rent and real estate most likely means no jobs.

@frackled, you made my day!

Really, @asker, you should specify the state or city you want to move to. Or don't you want to move at all, and this was just fun?

So, well: Some people tell me that the Lower Rhine is perfect because of the climate. I'm Bavarian, and I say, Berlin is perfect, because I lived and worked there and love it (although I'm back to Bavaria for family reasons). A person from Cologne will maybe tell you that the Upper Rhineland is perfect, and some from Hamburg or Bremen will sing you hymns on how their city states are beautiful. And I didn't even mention the east German states yet, like Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (if you can pronounce that, you're almost native).

Get what I mean?
