Hey there-
I'm currently about 30 minutes from Wuerzberg. I usually go up to Leighton Barracks on the weekends cuz the PX is bigger there. Did you know they will be closing that base within the year? Just thought you might want to know. |

I was near there at Larson Barracks in Kitzingen, Germany. I used to go to Leighton often to go to the PX as we had such a tiny on in Kitzingen. 1985 to 1987 |

I was about an hour or so away in Vilseck. Wuertzburg was the shopping mecca when I was working for the DoD 2002-2004. Loved visiting the PX & did lots of travel to the hospital there for my job. |

It's DE, not GE, by the way--just thought I'd clarify.
I was stationed in Wiesbaden, about an hour and a half to the west of Wurzburg; I used to stop in Wurzburg everytime I was headed east, usually to Rothenburg or to Nurnberg or even to Prague--Wurzburg's post had a nice, big PX, like a mall. Someone else already mentioned this, but they're gearing up to hand over Leighton Barracks and pretty much everything else in the immediate Wurzburg area back to the Germans soon; 1st ID has long since left Wurzburg and returned the garrison back to the states.... all part of the BRAC going on right now. Lots of other bases in Germany have been closed or are currently closing as we speak, although a few are actually being beefed up and expanded, as part of the realignment. |
