Have you been to Germany? Do Germans like Americans?

If I were to go to Germany, would they hold it against me that I'm American?
(If you don't know, then don't answer anything please.)

I know that Americans don't exactly have the best reputation with other countries, sadly.
Have any of you visited or lived in Germany before?

Yes, the Americans don“t have the best reputation but don“t take that personal. It“s nothing against the people or your country. I think the Country is beautiful. It“s the imperialistic attitude of your political System and those who represent that. We don“t like the interventions and exploitations.
Examples: the intervention in Irak by the US was called "A Mission of Freedom". The same by the Russians in Georgia is called "A Occupation". The deployment of weapons in Poland. Imagine what would America say when Russia do that in the US neighbourhood like Cuba.
As I said the Americans are welcome and we are really don“t have something against you“re Country but we don“t agree with everything in the US conception of foreign affairs.

I am an American and have been living in Germany for over 20 years. In general the Germans like the Americans on a one to one basis or in small groups. What they don't like is when Americans (or any nationality for that matter) go around in a group and be loud and obnoxious. But who does like that?

Try coming to Germany. It's a lovely country!

As long as you do not wear a T-shirt reading " Bush is God", you will find most Germans very friendly and accommodating. This in spite of almost 50 years of American occupation- however friendly it may have seemed.

You will also find many more Germans speaking good English than Americans , who speak German or another language.

In general, Americans are perceived as friends and allies, particularly the elderly people have not forgotten the Berlin Blockade and John F.Kennedy's famous speech in Berlin.

Every year more than 400.000 US tourist visit Germany and the vast majority likes it

So, welcome to Germany !!

they like americans and they think america is a cool country. don't worry.
i've lived in germany for 15 years.

Well..

People will be reserved at first or even spam you about iraq,Abu Graib etc etc

Answer honestly to those questions.
if we hate one thing then unhonest people

However this ““before-attitude““ can change very very very fast if you are a nice person and little intelligent.
we are aware that you as a normal citizen didnt start the war or created torture/death camps like abu graib

If people stare at you that doesnt mean they want to kill you
they are just interested in you.

if you dont fullfil the stereotype then you dont have to fear anything

Well, I am German and everyone I know likes American people and the USA as a country. President Bush is not well liked, but I guess even in the states he not well liked anymore.
Nobody will hold it against you that you are an American.
I am sure everyone is going to try their English on you... :-)

Just go and visit. You will have fun!

Don't know, but I find it strange if they love the USA. There's nothing good about the USA.

As long as you aren't loud and foolish acting, Germans will like you.

Americans are more popular in Germany than in most other countries in Europe. Just enjoy the country - avoid Berlin and former East Germany. Too many hate crimes there ... Hamburg, Cologne, Munich are fun

I travel to Hamburg every year - my favorite city in the world.

The majority of Germans are extremely open and welcoming as they are the country with the most homosexuals. Every other night club is for gays so I don't think they are one to judge. I went to Berlin and hated every moment of it. Bad vibe. It was if I could still feel the torture people experienced during the War. I have traveled all over the world and Germany has to be the worst experience ever. Truth be said if you have money to spend any country is welcoming. Just don't flaunt your American flag while walking down the streets.
