That will depend who you are asking.
In Germany many consider it a war crime but I don't think Americans or British will ever recognize the crimes they commited in history. |

By Germans it is, but internationally, it is not. The reason is that in those days, there was no international convention on war crimes (like it is nowadays, with the international court in The Hague, Netherlands). It was just thought IMPOSSIBLE that any nation could commit such a crime as to bomb out civilians to win the war.
But we must not forget that Hitler started it by bombing the big cities in England after the Reichsluftwaffe could not succeed in winning the "canal war", or the "battle of England", as the English say. -- A good leader would have surrendered then. But tell me one battlechief in history who ever has surrendered? |

depends on how the victors look at it. dresden was a bombing that caused a firestorm, as was the bombing of hamburg, and the bombing of tokyo; not to say hiroshima and nagasaki. the germans and japanese were not in a position, as losers, to bring charges against the allies. the nuremberg trials were aimed at punishing the germans who were members of the nazi regime, and were the perpetrators of the crimes against humanity that we should all know so well, but are grossly ignorant these days. |
