Help! How do I prepare this traditional German meal? |
Ok here is what I have to work with:
-Nurnberger German pre-cooked bratwurst
-German mustard
-German potato salad
-Saukraut
I also have hot dog buns available. How do the Germans traditionally eat their meals? Do they use the hot dog buns or no? Thanks!

O.K. this is how you do it: You fry the Nuernberger Bratwurst (they look cute that small don´t they?), until they are brown (little crispy skin is o.k. too) on both sides (I´d say about 6 min on each side over medium heat, turn every 2-3 min).
The Sauerkraut (hope it is in a can otherwise we have a problem), you just put in a skillet and simmer it about 20 min (do not boil). If you like to "spice" it up a bit, chop a fresh onion, and fry them in butter, then mix in the sauerkraut. You do not eat potato salad with sauerkraut. With the sausage and the "kraut" you eat mashed potatoes (either made from scratch or instant is o.k. too), some people like their sausage with mustard, some don´t so do not put it on the plate, just set it on the table.
You can fix potato salad and Bratwurst, but usually Germans eat "Wienerle" (like a hot dog, but longer) with potato salad.
No, no hot buns with the meal. Germans usually do not know hot dog buns ( unless they are around Americans :)
What you are thinking of are "Broetchen", roles made out of yeast doe.
So "Guten Appetit" (= good appetite, or hope you enjoy your meal) |

I laugh at your light beer! and I agree no need for hot dog buns, unless there are Americans eating with you. Just be sure to have a knife and fork because they eat EVERYTHING with a knife and fork! |

.... here in Nuernberg we eat Bratwurst with "Kren" (Prepared horseradish) when its serverd with kraut and with mustard when its in "Broetchen" for eating en route.
Forget about becks, just any beer you like that hasnt too much sweetness. |

no hot dog buns. This traditional meal is served with various types of mustards on the braut. saukraut is actionally optional. when i cook this i make a traditional bayern style salad with a baltsamic vinegrette. traditionally, this is served with a light beer. and no ketchup! have fun~ |
