Help me plan my day in Berlin? |
I arrive 5pm on a Thursday in January. After checking in the hostel (around 6.30 - 7pm), I think I would very much like to visit the Ku'damm area (I heard it's also bustling with people at night). Then maybe to a pub close to my hostel before turning in to sleep. The next day I plan to take a bus (Berlin 100, offering 11 different sites in Berlin) to visit all the important places in Berlin, then the afternoon, I hope to do some shopping at at C&A or H&M chains (could somebody tell me the location in Berlin), and some sport shoes in "Karstadt Sport" or "Intersport" chains (again, locations...). Then go back to the hostel by 7pm for a shower, then to Ostbahnbof train station for my train.
Questions:
1. Do you think I will have enough time to finish all my plans in time?
2. Suggestion for a good, affordable hostel (not too far from Ostbahnhof and not too far from city centre as well if possible).
3. Suggestion of good night life activities? Maybe for a quite, picturesque stroll? Additional Details Oh yeah, we are 3 young energetic chaps with high level of endurance, so we are used to walking a lot... |

Wow, that's allot what you wanna do on one day. A little tip for you that you can do all of this. I don`t know where your hostel is. But go to the S-Bahn station "Alexanderplatz". This is the middle of Berlin and the oldest place. Here is the first C&A and an Intersport too. There are some important places to see. Like the "Fernsehturm" (TV-Tower), go in and take the elevatior. You`ll have a great view over Berlin. When you`re back down, can you make a walk along "Unter den Linden" (2 miles). There you can see a bunch of old buildings, museums, operas, the biggest University in Berlin, and a lot of Souvenir Shops. On the end ist the "Brandenburger Tor". Turn right, there is the "Reichtagsgebäude" and new buildings were our politicans are inside. Turn left from the Brandenburger Tor and there is a new memorial place for the jews they were killed in the 2. world war. When you wouldn`t make a walk, then take the bus from Alexanderplatz (Bus No. 100 direction "Zoologischer Garten"). With this bus can you see all this things too and he brings you to the Ku`damm. Its like a sightseeing tour, but much cheaper. On the Ku`damm can you find 1 C&A; 4 H&M`s, the KaDeWe (big and expensive), the sportstores, a NIKE Store and much more.
A god hostel near near Ostbahnhof (49 Euro per night)
Ibis Ostbahnhof
An der Schillingsbrücke 2,
10243 Berlin
http://www.berlin.de/tourismus-unterkunft/hotels/index.php
Near this hotel is are along the street rests from the Berlin wall. Ask the receptionist in the hotel wich direction.
The Ku`damm Area is full of people from all over the world for day and night.
From the Ku`damm can you take the S-Bahn line direct back to the Ostbahnhof. You can take every S-Bahn.
When you arive in Berlin, buy a tourist ticket called "City Tour Card" for 14,90 Euro. Its for 48hrs valid for S-Bahn, U-Bahn, bus and fairy, and in some touristic attractions can you get a 50% offer.
I hope its help, andhave fun! |

Well if you are going to be near the Ku'damm business district you should shop at Ka De We....the largest department store on the continent and a great cafeteria on the top floor. (The other stores you can find in any large german city) Shop till you drop.... |

The bus tour is cool and you can get on and off when you want. I would really suggest to spend some time at House Am Check Point Charlie. The Brandenburg Tore and Unter der Linden near there is a nice place at night. C&A is a good place to shop. I think Karstasdt Sport can be exspensive but sometimes they have bargains. Have fun |

There are sooo many "important places" to see in Berlin that to try and stuff it all into one morning would be difficult unless you just look at all the places from the outside and spend just a few minutes at each one. I spent a weekend there and thought it was perfect. Maybe on your picturesque stroll, you should try and fit in a few of those sights... they are beautiful at night as well. Enjoy Berlin, it's a great city! |
