And one more thing, how thick the jackets we hve to wear if its snows there.

I would for sure pack a big winter jacket. It can get quite cold in Germany during that time. Also take some snow boots.

No one can forecast the right temperature, because it could be +10 degree Celsius or -15 with the same probability. Usually it will be around the freezing point, but since the climate in Germany is very different between the coast (warmer in winter) and the south (colder in winter) it is hard to predict.

Prepare yourself for the worst case, take a lot of Pullovers, if it is really cold, wear two pullovers (helps often better than an thicker Jacket). If you are not used to the cold, get really warm gloves and a wool scarf.

In the best case you don't need it, in the worst case you will be glad to have it.

Hi from Baden-Württemberg! I agree with most people here, regular winter clothes are fine, but I'd also get some good winter boots, the local authorities don't actually clear all the roads here, in most streets its the residents who are responsible for that. Chances are you'll end up walking through some thick snow at some point and you don't want to end up with cold and likely wet feet. I come from Scotland originally, so for me the climate isn't too bad but it can easily hover either side of freezing.
viel spaß!

If you know how it is in the great lakes region in the US, that is about the same as in Hamburg in winter. Most of the time aroud freezing, could possibly be snowing. Just a normal winter jacket, scarf, gloves.. that'll do

It's cold as crap, this ain't Michigan, it's up there with Hudson Bay. Think Goose down, the superinsulated long underware---As your Mother told you " You can always take it off"....

it varies: just look at the unusual Nov. 06...

Think NYC , the temps are similar. Be prepared for wet cold: good shoes, warm sox are essential! (umbrella!!!!)
Thick jacket or coat would be right!
warm, wool pants or jeans plus longjohns... it depends how old you are and how you dress.
Be sure to have a warm scarf, gloves and a hat/cap! In Muc for example is a GAP store... other stores like Kaufhof, C + A are good places to shop at reasonable prices, in case you need clothing, etc....

I hope you'll have a good time! Merry Christmas, Frohe Weihnachten! :-)

Depends on where you're going really. If you're going down to the Alps get some long underwear. Otherwise just be sensible. It will be below freezing (up to minus 10-20 centigrade during the night) but during the day the temperature will rise to as much as 10-12 degrees centigrade (on average).
Have fun, and hope for snow it's fun :-)

It can be anywhere from 45 dgrees to 10 below. It could rain or snow. Non the less it will be cold and wet. I would have with you a winter jacket and or a Goretext like jacket. I often wear a Goretext and a sweatshirt. Weather proof your shoes or weather proof hiking boots are the best. Pletty of sox (wool or winter sox) to change. A light scarf and gloves (Weather proof). It not so much the cold but the wettness. If you stay dry you'll be OK.

Germany has different regions, it depends where you go. The South with its mountains is colder of course than the North which is close to the North Sea. There it is always windy and wet cold and a normal winter jacket will do, whereas in the South I'd pack a down coat. There might be tons of snow, but then....there might not. If you're in the middle of Germany the weather is milder, probably not much snow if any.
Basically, think of Germany per se as of Washington State without all that rain and more snow instead.
If you go to a Christmas Market in December before Christmas (you really should!) wear some warm boots. Even all that Gluehwein (spiced, sweet, hot red wine, YUMMY) you'll drink is not going to heat up these tootsies

Get the heaviest clothes you can . Easily below water freeze point all days and nights.
