As you won't be anywhere near Frankfurt stick to Cochem,Bacharach and Boppard and the Loreley.Take a sail on the Rhine

The Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is quite far away from Frankfurt/Main.

Type "Hahn", chose "Hahn, Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis, RP" and you come up near the Airbase Hahn. Then get the route to "Frankfurt-Main". It's exactly 126 km!
There is no large town around, so you might as well go direction west.

Frankfurt/Hahn is an old air base modified to be a regional airport. It's quite far from the actual Frankfurt am Main. Nevertheless, if you have only three days, I would head to Cologne for day one, then take the high speed ICE train to Frankfurt for some shopping, then take the same ICE service to Munich. That's option one. Option two would be to take the train to Berlin. You'll need multiple days to explore that city. Definitely don't do the old fashioned, stereotypical fairy tale castle BS. You'll be with a bunch of old folks and you'll be bored. They're just ruins anyway, and big time tourist traps. The major cities have all the action and you'll get a better feel for modern Germany.

Eileen, in the region surrounding Frankfurt I think you should visit the Rhineland towns and villages. You should certainly see the towns of Weisbaden and Mainz. A short trip on a Rhine River ferry would be unforgettable especially in the Rheingau.

I would take a shuttle bus to Mainz and set up base camp there. Not having to check in and out hotels saves you time for more sightseeing and fun.

One day I'd take a Rhine River Cruise passing famous Loreley Rock down to Cologne (cathedral) - take the train back. http://www.koeln-duesseldorfer.de/englisch/index.html

One day I'd go to Heidelberg to see the Old Bridge and the marvelous castle - on your way you could stop at Worms to see the town and cathedral.

One day I'd spend in Mainz and nearby Frankfurt and / or Wiesbaden.

Forget about Munich, Berlin, and Auschwitz: although worth seeing all are too far away!

For some information (also pictures and links) on the cities go to http://en.wikipedia.org and type in their names

You can make some alternative:

You can go from Frankfurt to Munich

from munich to Heidelberg - tre truly romantic and beautiful city in Germany.

and from Heidelberg to The Black Forest (or Schwarzwald) in southwest Germany is famed for its majestic scenery, delicious Black Forest Cake, and cuckoo clocks

Try to visit Cologne and Bonn.
