The Boot

Honestly, are Germans the loudest NOSE-BLOWERS on Earth?

This is a SERIOUS question, so numbskulls should not answer. I have lived here over 20 years and still have not gotten used to the room-rattling, ear-splitting nose-blowing of Germans. This **** is inhumanly LOUD, and to make matters worse, so many of them feel compelled to it at the DINNER TABLE! Anyone who is honest with themselves will admit I am right about this. I have been all over this world and never heard anything even remotely like their blowing. I couldn't manufacture a sound like that if I tried, so I believe it is somehow genetic. Both men and women are equally loud -- and offensive, at all times of the year. During the World Cup, and I swear this is true, some folks were celebrating a victory in Frankfurt, and I heard this "horn" that scared the **** almost out of me while waiting to cross the street in Frankfurt. Startled, I looked down to see a German woman in a car dabbing tissue at her nose. Gimme a break!!! This stuff is NOISE POLLUTION and VERY impolite. Act HUMAN!

well actually you´re right. I am german, but I do it silent. I think it´s disgusting how those people blow there noses, although there´s no need. But check the normal people. They do it the way I do. (I hope...;-)

Is this a jeapordy question,i guess it would be polite to answer a question with a question then......what is a black sabbath?

Well, my Irish pop had a honk so loud he sounded like an elephant. It must have skipped a generation 'cause my youngest son (27) sounds just like him. (He has some German blood in him if that helps.) I still tease him that I've told him time and time again he has to leave the elephant on the porch.

It is a style question...

some americans...boog their noses...or use a tissue and twist it up their nostrils...I find this equally disturbing and gross.

I think people should blow noses, clear throats, fart, fix their underwear...etc, in complete privacy, like in the bathroom for example.

This made me laugh. I thought about my dad's side of the family-100% German-and how true in my family! My mom's side is English and Irish and they don't do this-I don't either, I find it offensive. It is true in my family-not sure about ALL Germans, but that is an interesting observation. I'm sure there are some loud noseblowers in all cultures. :)

I must agree with you. I have also been living here for the past 20 years and am married to a German. Yes, it is very annoying! At least my kids didn't seem to inherite the gene....
