Houses in Germany? (Specifically, Köln, Leipzig, Hamburg, u. Berlin)? |
I was curious how much houses in Germany usually cost in those areas? What the normal price range? And isn't it more if you want a larger one or two story house instead of a skinny like 3/4 story house because of land constraints? Usually how big is one property slot? etc. Additional Details That video won't play at all on my computer, don't know why, but I think it's infected, my security system is going nuts |

Well with these four cities. The cheapest is Leipzig, follow by Berlin (Eastern section ie. Pankow). Koeln would be the most expensive, unless you want to live by the water in Hamburg. A lot of people live in apartments and townhouses now. A house would vary on you're location. In Leipzig expect anywhere from 150-300+ Euros a square foot for newer houses. In Koeln it can cost from 250-500+ Euros a square foot. A property slot is as big as you can afford. |

There is no way to get any sort of information on an "average" property slot - you can get your hands on pretty much whatever you want, from one-room flats to mansions.
Especially in the cities you mention, most people rent rather than buy - and it`s apartments rather than houses. It's different in rural areas, where you will find larger properties and houses because of what runs in the families. :)
The last official info given out was the Ifs Instutite report published in 2005.
According to this, the average German one-family house costs around 167.900 Euro in the Western states. The Eastern states rank lower, at around 94.100 Euro. Compare that to prices for flats: in the West, 121.000 Euro to buy one, in the East including Berlin 102.600 Euro.
As you are only asking about houses, Munich is most expensive (368.000 Euro); in Dusseldorf and Frankfurt you`d pay about 266.000 - 272.000 Euro. Cheapest were Dresden and Halle/Leipzig with about 89.000 - 105.000 Euro.
Please consider that there are various other factors to take into consideration when thinking about a house. Reselling is more difficult in Germany than it is in the US or UK, for example, as German people are more, let's call it: home-bound and less likely to move house several times a life. Public transport is good in most areas, though will be worse in real rural areas. If you need a car, petrol is way more expensive here than overseas - and that is something you should not underestimate if you calculate spendings.
Hope I helped... what's with the thumbing-down in this section?! The answers given so far were fine. |
