How are interracial relationships considered in Germany? |
Will it be easy for a person of Indian origin to find a German girlfriend, while living/working in Germany? What is your country's view on intermixing of cultures? |

Depends on where that person lives and how conservative the parents and friends are.First rule of thumb : Big cities are better than small villages.Second rule : West and north are more tolerant than east and south.Catholics (south) are generally more conservative than protestants (north). |

Based on my experience living in Europe, interracial relationships are more accepted there than in the USA. |

Let me tell you something.
In any country (doesn't matter where) whenever something is very rare, it is considered exotic.
There are not many indians in Germany, so if you are a good looking Indian, girls will definately like you. (They like their meat dark)
I'm from Germany, and I'm mixed and I like having interracial relationships myself. When I used to live there, people didn't really mind seeing an interracial couple. The younger generation is more acceptable of this idea, than the older one. You will see A LOT of German women with either Arab or Turkish guys together. I have found that interracial relationships are more acceptable than in the States. Sure, you will have American parents say "Sure, I have nothing against interracial relationships....as long as my kids are not involved in one."
But again, you have racists in every country. And I have heard that over the last couple of years, there are more an more Neo-Nazis. They don't like anybody who doesn't look German.
But you know what, just because other people have problems with interracial relationships, shouldn't stop you from having one. All of my family members are in interracial relationships and have great relationships. My uncle still lives in Germany and is married to a Turkish/Gypsy woman.
So why shouldn't you date a German girl?
All the best and have fun in Germany; the women are beautiful there. |

Well, I have been an exchange student in Berlin now for 7 months, and I have definitely noticed a large difference in the acceptability of interracial relationships. It is quite not uncommon to see a couple made up of different races. I know that Berlin is a large and diverse city, so the way of life here is much different than in the south of Germany. When I traveled to the southern German states, I primarily saw same-race relationships, and the way of life there was much more conservative. So to wrap up this answer, I believe that if you are planning on moving or living in a larger city, then you should not have a problem finding a girlfriend because of your origin. |

Grew up in Germany in a small town in the blckforest area from an interacial couple.... it's also predominantly Catholic and we never had problem to this day. Racial descrimination is always there somewhere no matter what country you're in.... but I do believe that in Germany, interacial relationship aren't look upon as they do in North America. BTW, I married a Canadian and it's supposed to be a multi-cultural country but heck racism is there too..... let's face face, it is how you're going to carry yourself that matters most in gaining someone's trust and approval and not your origin or skin colour. there's just a few that look on your colour and origin. |

Well(doch) I see you are getting a variety of answers. So, as mentioned in other answers; Depending on where you live and how you look and act you should have no problem finding a German girlfriend. But, if you end up in Berlin or Frankfurt for example do not be surprized if the girl of your dreams turns out to be Polish, Nigerian, Chinesse, or any other nationality.
Since Germany allows Lesbians and Gays Civil Unions, ie 'Marriage' that should give you an idea on how accepting they are on intermixing of cultures. For me Germany in that regard is far better than America.
You did not mention in your question if you have been to Germany already? But, just so you know; Germans tend to be cold and reserved. If you ask them a question or want an opinion they WILL answer honestly. That means they do not 'sugar coat' their comments. You get used to it, and actually after 20 years I like it.
Good luck.
P.S. Your ID will not go over very good with Germans. Unless you are a big Spike Jones fan it would be a good idea to get a new one before moving to Germany. |

i am german and my american boyfriend is black. our children are therefore mixed. so far we never faced any problems with germans about our interracial relationship and our children are rather being admired for their cute looks than discriminated. |

I know three couples where the man is from India and the women from Germany. All met in Germany and all have had wonderful marriages. They did not encounter any more problems in Germany than in North America. You will find a racist in every country on this planet like it or not.
I do however think that there are more interracial relationships in North America since these countries are built on immigration. |

If your attitude matches your user name you'll have problems where ever you go regardless of you heritage.
Otherwise, Germans in general don't care so much about what other people do.
Of course you'll find some racists here, but it is not even close to what you go through in the US or in the clan society in India.
Be friendly and yourself and we don't care where you are from. |
