How are relations between Germans and Turkish immigrants?

In my nearly 20 years in Germany as a non-resident, I have never seen the German police "scared" of anyone. Sure, they have become less brutal over the years, but they still have the authority to defend themselves if the need arises. And trust me when I say this, they WILL use those little spring stick batons. If they feel that they are out numbered, they will call more to assist them.

It depends on who you talk to regarding the relations between Germans and Turks. Some Germans want nothing less than to send them all back to Turkey. Some don't care one way or the other.

My point of view is that if they are contributing to the progression of Germany and are in the active work force, they can stay. But, if they are living off the government, collecting welfare, and causing trouble, send them back to Turkey. I've met MANY great Turkish people here and some of them are very close friends of mine that I will invite to my home for BBQs and parties. But I have also met a lot of the 'other' type of Turkish. The kind that travel in packs and cause trouble. If you get into it with one of them, 20 others will beat your @$$. Every nation has these types of people, so it's nothing new in the world. If it wasn't the Turkish in Germany, it would be the Polish or even the Germans. Without these groups, society would just feel strange.

It used to be just fine but maybe with the war going on.....I don't know.

Turkisch people are very Modern and more tolerant then other Muslem groups.

It's a fact that there are conflicts with foreigners or youth born in germany from immigrants. This is mostly due to the fact of language barriers. In these families, the german language is not stressed. This will cause problems when the kids start school, for some it continues. That results in getting no job and hanging out in the streets with peers, also jobless.

No, the police is not scared, why should they? They're the authority.

There might be certain corners in certain cities where groups of jobless immigrants hang out and harrass people. But on the whole, the Turkish population in Germany is peaceful, friendly and hard working as everyone else.

It depends where you are, and it ain't always the turkish people, it can also be any other nationality even germans! My best friend is turkish, so I have no problems at all with them! I don't think the police are really scared!

In general relations are strained. I think your tour guide is full of doodoo. I've never heard of a German police officer being scared of a Turkish youth..although most German police tend to be rather nonchalant unless actively provoked.

I grew up with Turkish friends and never had any problems. But as it was said before, it always depends on the area of town.

I miss some of my Turkish friends now that I'm living in the U.s., and their Doner Kebab.

Turkish people live in Germany for such a long time now, that it usual is no problem. Of course you always only hear from trouble makers! Most of the problems appear, when gathered groups reject to integrate and keep themselves cultural and linguistic outsiders (like everywhere in the world, I guess). An other problem is, that most immigrants come from the (poorer) Asian part of Turkey, which stick more to their culture and are less open to the world than the European part. Those people sometimes are scared to lose their culture and religion in a foreign place that they tend more to stick with it than people who stayed in Turkey.
