Yes, she will be ok. If she acts friendly and nice, people will treat her the same. No problems at all. |

Hi, I think if anyone will have problems when in Germany or other parts of Europe it would be around central train stations (Hauptbahnhof) at night time, because lots of drunk people hang around there, it happened to us. It also may dependon what city you're visiting. If you're not going to be out late at night and stuff then you should be fine and I saw plenty of black people while I was there so I'm sure you'll be ok. Enjoy your holiday! |

Absolutely NOT....German Dudes are very attractive to Black ladies. They won't harass her, but they will definitely try to buy her a drink or something else to garner her affections, if only for the moment.
You should have NO problems there. |

Hello,
I have many German friends who go back and forth from there. Certainly the biggest problems that occur there are with the Turks who have migrated there to work. Here is an article discussing this:

there are alot of skinhead neo-nazis in Germany, just make sure you look like a tourist and only stay in tourist places, and nice streets in restaurants |

You will be fine. I am a lady of color myself and have had little to no problems. The only problem that you will certainly face is the way to reject so many hot German men asking you out! |

It depends on how independent and street smart she is. In general, I would exercise common sense and avoid walking around at night and being alone on trains after dark etc. I would exercise this judgement myself, and I'm white and speak fluent German.
Racial tension does exist in Germany. I have seen people verbally harrassed in public for being non-white. I have NEVER witnessed this at home in Canada. There are some closed-minded people in Germany and there isn't the same degree of cultural and racial equality as we enjoy in North America. This is simply fact. I am not trying to be negative or pessimistic. I have lived in Germany and have also lived in the US and Canada and the differences are glaring. On the whole, Germany is a nice enough place to visit and live in, but I wouldn't trade it for North America.
So, to answer your question -- be smart and careful. I would say this regardless of race. Sticky situations can develop anywhere. |
