How do I decide which city to live in? |
I want to move to Germany for college and to live there afterwards as well, but I just can't decide which city is the right one for me. All the major cities have universities so that's not the issue here. My problem is knowing what city I want to LIVE in.
What are some things to help me decide? Links, city comparisons/etc.. are very welcome. |

Well first off both deciding when you want to live you should decide what college you want to go to. Cause you don't want to go to a college that is like two hours or an hour away right? So answer that question first. If you find the college you like but not really the city than find a city that is close by to the college.
Good luck

I'd say Heidelberg . . . University town . . . lots of cafes and beautiful and US military european headquarters

You should decide what university you want to go to first, then continue from there. If you are undecided perhaps you should start small, and then transfer. Try Mainz. Gutenburg University. Nice medium sized city on the Rhine. Great people, lots to do. Perfect. |

I suggest Munich, solely for Oktoberfest! |

What is it with the recent silly thumbing down in this section?! Nobody has given any "wrong" answer so far and look at the thumbs.... whoever you kids are, get a life.
That being said, it is true that all major cities have universities - but not all cities offer all subjects. Acceptance procedures also vary, so you need to decide on a university first before thinking about the city. What do you want to study? Even German students have to get in line for some subjects at popular universities (especially in traditional "student cities"), so the number of foreign students admitted is limited. :)
There is no problem at all with moving after you have graduated; actually, you are very likely to have to move to find a job.
Do you have some sort of information on your subject of choice and the factors that matter to you in a city? Do you want cinemas, parks, shops, lots of other students, good libraries, a quiet flat.....? |

Tübingen is a very nice university city, not big, but realy nice. If you prefer a bigger city, go to Freiburg and if the university doesnt matter and just the city should be great, go to Berlin. |
