Train from Munich to Füssen!
Bus or walk from Füssen to Neuschwanstein.

You can catch the train from Munich Hauptbahnhof.Takes 1 and a half hours - 2 hours or so. There should be buses connecting to Schwangau, the village by the famous castle. Remember to buy tickets for entrance to the castle at the bottom. There is a ticket office next to a huge parking lot. Try and go early to get tickets.
Here is the website for Deutsch Bahn:

Info for Neuschwanstein:

When you are at Neuschwanstein take a walk to the Marienbrücke - the bridge behind the castle. It is really worth it!

Take the train to Fussen. From there, there's a frequent bus from the train station that will take you to the castle. You'll need to buy tickets for the castle tour BEFORE you go up the mountain to the castle. Do walk up to the bridge for the views from there - it's a steep climb, but worth the effort. The restaurant below the castle on the road back down to the town is pretty good for lunch.

The train trip takes a couple of hours through Bavaria. Most of the options require a train change in Buchloe, but that's no problem. You just cross the platform and hop on the next train

For specific schedules and prices: http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

There are also escorted tours from Munich that can be pretty good. You'll have less time at the castle, but the tour also goes to Obergammerau and Lustheim Castle.
