How do you pronounce the 'R' in German?

That could help: say "RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRING".
If you say it right, then you roll the "R". That means there's a little vibration in your mouth.

And keep trying, i know it's hard. But one day it will work!. ;)
I tried it with my boyfriend, who's British. And now, a few weeks later, he can pronounce it sooo great.
Just don't give up and keep trying! :)

And forget about the Bavarian and Hamburg dialect. I assume you are learning normal German.
So it is not important to know every dialect - unless you are visiting the parts.
But believe me, i am German - and sometimes i don't understand a Bavarian either. ;)

It´s differs from which word you want to say and where you´re going to. a "R" spoken in Bavaria is different from a "R" spoken in Hamburg. What I want to say is, it depends from city to city, Bundesland to Bundesland and people and their way of speaking.
I´d also suggest to listen to some german news on the internet.

Rolling the tip of your tongue just above your upper teeth. Very much like in Spanish, actually. It's hard to explain; I'd suggest you tune in to a German news broadcast like www.tagesschau.de to hear correct German spoken.

The problem with the German r is that it's not always pronounced strongly but sometimes half-skipped, like in words ending with -er. You only find out through listening.
