The job prospects aren't very good. I guess it depends on what you want to do. I was a secretary in the States, but I wouldn't have a chance to get a secretarial job here. The most I could hope for is a job as a cleaning lady. No thanks. |

HI babyfosu,
I am planning on living in Germany after my Masters degree is complete. The unemployment rate in Germany is terrible, no matter what level of education or skill. Even those with Masters and PhD degrees are working in blue collar jobs. I have an exemplary resume in nutrition and dietetics; however, I am planning on being an English tutor or tour guide because I have a good grasp of the German and English languages.
I have met many very well educated taxi drivers in Germany. Full time jobs are much harder to come by then part time jobs. This helps employers save on benefits, which is almost non existent. It appears that employment in western and southern Germany would be much easier to get due to more economical stability. The wealthiest region of Germany is around Aachen; therefore, I would shoot for job searching more in West Germany. If you are flexible and resourceful, you will be much more successful in finding employment.
I wish you the best in your endeavours.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other concerns or questions.

Unemployment rate is right now here in Germany over 8%. The job market look good the last 1,5 years and the economy is growing this is why the unemployment rate is going down now. |

At the moment the economy is booming and the unemployment rate is sinking. We have around 3.7 million unemployed people. 80 million people are living in Germany. Two years ago, we had nearly 5 million unemployed. Thus the times get better.
It also depends on the job you have. For example, we have a lack of doctors and also as an engineer or in other technical jobs you have really good chances on the German job market.
And unfortunately it is true, that you have better job chances in Western Germany than in Eastern Germany. |
