Hello Friends, i am really greatful to you guys that you have taken some time out to help me out on this.
Well, let me clarify a few more things here. I am looking at some reasonable place somewhere near Heidelberg. I suppose, staying at Heidelberg would be a costly affair. Hence, i won't. Following are some of the questions i have in mind:
1. What could be the approx. rent in areas like Sand Hausen ? How big the diff would be between a furnished, semi-furnished and unfurnished houses in this area ? It would be great if someone can define the words "furnished", "un-furnished" and "semi-furnished" when it comes to Germany.
2. How much could be the monthly household expenses ? I lead a very simple life. Specifically, i am looking at the expenses on food, electricity etc.
3. What could be the cheapest way to communicate accross the countries ?
I think thats a lotta question for now. It is difficult to arrive at any concrete figure as such...any approx figure would do. Thanks again.

I'm single and have a 65m2 apartment in Frankfurt. The rent is EUR 700, basic bills at least 300 - so you are looking at EUR 1,000 per month. Food is on top of that and would depend on how/where you want to eat. I guess if you eat at home most of the time calculate EUR 100 per week.
Outside of the city you can live much more cheaply but then you need to calculate transport into the picture which also costs money (and time). |

Depends on where you live. There's a huge differents between East and Westgermany and also if you live a big city or in some village. |

go to www.immobilian.de.........and type in heidelberg......most of what your looking for will depend on your income amount you receive......laundry is done at home by yourself....food is cheap and you can survive on 200 a month easily, electricity is about 60 to 70 a month, and for communication you can go to t-mobile and receive DSL internet and phone unlimited with international call for 50 a month........oh and all the numbers are in euros.....to find the conversion use and online conversion calculator or exchange rate....good luck and welcome.... |

Depends on where you are and what you expect. A single person at the countryside or in a shrinking city in eastern Germany could survive with less than 500 Euro maybe. My rather old flat appartment of 30m² in Thuringia costs about 190 Euro plus 25 for electricity.
Relying on discounter food, about 50 Euro per month and person can be possible (but maybe not healthy for longer time).
Of course, that's not the way, most people would like to live like, so double it up, to have a realistic idea.
And if you want to live in one of the major cities like Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and especially Munich, double it once again. Really expensive areas. |

It is expensive in Germany. If you along and having little apartment and the utilities bills, you need to earn in a month 2000 Euro, than perhaps you can survive in Germany. |
