How much of the Berlin Wall remains? |
I know the wall's been down for about 15 years now, but how much of it is still there so could I go to east Berlin and actually see where the wall use to be and take a piece of it? And can you even tell on an economic level where the East Berlin use to be? I mean, is that part of Berlin today more poor than west Berlin because of all those years under communist rule? |

You would find small sections of the wall are still on display in Berlin. Local residents can show you around where the wall originally was. I think in one or two places, still parts of the wall is on display at its original site.
East Berlin is being developed along with West Berlin under a new unified master plan. Though there are still old buildings of East Berlin, most of the buildings have got a touch of renovation and refurbishment.
You might see in the German embassy pictures of how East Germany used to be and how it is now after renovations and refurbishments.
You can also enjoy a river cruise, which will show you around the city of Berlin (combined East and West part).
Compared to West part I think the East part has more open green spaces. Many things are newly developed. It looks nice. |

The answer of "Male4girlz" is not bad, but I'd like to add that there is also a piece of the Berlin Wall in New York, in the garden of the UN!
Greetings from the south of Germany... |

There is some part of that you can see still in Berlin. You don't need to worry about some souvenir from the wall. They are selling everywhere some stuff like that.
Some people was just worrying here, like you want to take the whole the rest wall with you.... it's fun.
East Berlin build up so much, you don't see the different so far. |

If you go to Berlin, you will still see a few blocks left as a display where the berliners put some informations about the wall.
As you walk there, you will also see the line or mark as to where the wall once stood and you'll be surprised to see that even inside a restaurant or a shop.
As for the piece of the wall, bits and pieces can be bought from souvenir shops.
On the economic level, east Berlin is not that far behind from the west. And right now, a lot of constructions going on are in the east side which the city of Berlin considers as the anchor of the city. |

You can see about 2km of it still. I do not think that you should take some of it for your self. My ant sent me a part of it in a post cared a long time ago. |

There's still about 1 or 2 km of it left and you should NOT take a piece of it just like you should NOT pick out pieces from statues, castles and churches. I wonder what weird minds have such thoughts. Take the train to "Ostbahnhof" (East Station), cross the road and then go left but keep your hands and tools from the monument. |
