How to get from Berlin Tegel airport to the city centre? Is taxi expensive?

Any other options?

I agree with the above.

Just to add:
A taxi from Tegel to Mitte would cost about 20 Euros.
A one way bus trip: 2,10 Euros.

I agree with penguin, take the bus or train ("S-Bahn" or "U-Bahn"). Tegel is not far from the city, and maybe you'd like to explore Berlin a bit more, so you better buy a day ticket ("Tageskarte"), this allows you to use all busses, trains and the metro within the city area for an unlimited time on that single day.

If you know the address of your hotel, you can use maps.google.com to explore how far it is from Tegel airport, and how you get there the easiest way. When you're in Berlin, I'd recommend you buy a map of the town ("Stadtatlas") from the BVG (Berlin transport company, "Berliner Verkehrsgesellschaft") with all bus and metro routes in it, available at their stores and at some hotels for a mere 10 euros. It's an investment that really pays; you'll save a lot of taxi fares. (And you'll have a nice souvenir.)

I would take one of the busses that leaves from there. Cheaper.

Definitely go for public transport, there are loads of connections and it's excelent value for money. You've already been pointed to the BVG local transport authority, let me specify this: I always take the Tegel express bus (doesn't cost more for being an express), it's marked TXL on the display above the driver's window and you can find the timetable and route it takes here:

There's also the X9 Express bus which leaves at Tegel, too, but takes a different ropute into town, whcih you can look up here

Enjoy your trip!
