you can buy tickets in the station like in the rest of Europe. Nevertheless I would recommend making reserves a few days ahead of your departure. check out www.bahn.de (Unfortunately only in German). |

You can 3 possibilities to buy yr train tickets here in Germany :
1. at the train station ( counter or machine )
2. authorized travel agents ( DB-Sign )
3. Web ( also available in english, see "international guests " )
www.bahn.de
Have a nice day

There are different methods to buy a ticket inside the train station.
1st. Ticket counter, in big stations, at least one staff will speak English.
2nd. Old Vending Machines without touch screen, usually white/grey- There is a list with many stations on the machine. Enter the number on the list into the machine and insert the money. If there is a button, showing a flag, you can switch its language into English.
3rd. New Vending Machines with touch screen - usually red/blue
Press the "English" or "Language" button on the touchscreen and click "buy ticket". |

if you are talking about the metro type trains (S and U bahns) there is a machine (grey where i live) that has a touch screen. i believe you press the large blue button on the screen and then it takes you to a screen where you type where you want to go then select what kind of ticket then insert your money. i hope that helps, i dont know if all the machines are like that, but the ones in stuttgart are |

Good idea!!! It's the best... but don't expect that a reserved seat will be honored as such...lol... Just get there and have Euro and you are good to go. It's very easy actually... once you are there, you will be surprised how simple it is to purchase a ticket and more people are willing to speak English now.... most people are willing to help you. |

Log onto the Deutsch Bahn website - you will find that they have pages translated into English. |

I was a tourist in Germany last summer for six weeks and it was easier for me because I had a eurrail pass and it was so much cheaper because I saw the price of the tickets I got and without it I would never have dared travel last minute in Germany. And I agree sometimes planes are actually cheaper to travel through Germany but I preffered seeing the country by train and it had loads of kodak moment views. |
