First of all, you'll need a German or European drivers license, and they're not issued to persons under 18, and you'll have to take driving lessons for that and pass a test. So forget your car. We're quite strict about driving here; if you do it illegally, you may be fined. (The good thing is, you'll not be put to jail or so, because you're too young, but the person who borrowed you the car or let you drive will be in serious, VERY serious trouble. They might even withdraw his/her license, so don't even THINK about touching a steering wheel!)

You CAN go to clubs until midnight, that's no problem. Some clubs ask for age verification, some don't. Some throw you out at midnight, some don't. It's also a matter what you look like and how you behave.

The general thing is: At 18, you can do all the things that in America, you can only do at 21. All the sexual things, too, like go to a video store and lend some porn. You can smoke in public, and behave just nasty; but I started to fear those people who do all that at their 18th birthday. You regularly have to carry them out of pubs because they overuse their new-gained "freedom".

Wine and Beer, Vespas and going out are for 16 years and over.
Destilled Alcohol, voting, smoking, gambling, driving a car etc. are 18 years and over.

Drinking 'strong' alcoholic beverages (whiskey, vodka, gin, etc.) is limited to people 18 years old and above.
Lighter drinks, (beer and wine, etc.), are available to 16 year olds.
Also, driving is restricted to 18 year olds as well.

noo that's not true, its not like being 21
in germany you have to be 18 to smoke and drink hard liquor
you can start driving once youre 17 but you have to have either have a parent drive with you or a person who has had thier drivers license for more than 3 years
you are allowed to drink beer at age of 16
depending on the city your in, the ID checks at clubs are not too harsh, just depends i guess

18 years old sweety . . .

At midnight, you turn into a pumpkin. You need to get out of the clubs. They will check by hanging on to your ID or stamping you with a different color code or something. I am too old for that, but I have boys who go to the clubs. My second just turned 18 so he is legal in Germany. You can't drink whatever you want either in the clubs. Unless the owners want to give up their license.

Technically, you are not suppose to be on the street if you are under 18. Depends how lazy the german Polizei are. My son has been ticketed for pissing off the side of the street in the hedge line. He was over 18 at the time. The police were must have been bored.

You can't get a driver's license until you are 18 technically. Then again, the license may run you up around 2000 euros to get. In your case, you probably speak no german. Bank on 2000 euros. No, you cannot drive in Germany.

For example, many of my sons' girl friends work the bars in the clubs. IIf they think you are under age, they will not let you drink certain drinks. You probably will be stamped with a different code or color or something.

Sounds like you are on vacation. You will see enough things to keep you busy. Try to soak in some culture why you are in Europe. You will have plenty of time catching up with all adult things you can do the rest of your life.

May I correct your friends opinions?

Your age of 16 in NOT the same as 21 here in Germany, sorry.

For driving a car you have to be 18 years old.

16 years old are allowed to go disco - but - they have to leave it at 10 pm. Although you will find in every big city places you can stay longer.

And be sure you have your identification card with you!!!! They make controls!

Drinking alcohol in public is NOT allowed.

But nobody will call for police if you drink a beer in a normal Restaurant. There the waiter decides - again - take your identification card with you.

You will see Germany is a free and open mindet state.

Almost every body is able to talk English - minimum of learning English at school is 5-6 years!!!

And now - you are Welcome! in my wonderful Country.
