Ok visiting the Cathedral "Kölner Dom" is a must. It's a world cultural heritage site.
If you like to go to a museum: close to the Cathedral is the Römisch-Germanisches Museum, which has stuff from Roman times and the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum which is an excellent art gallery.
If you're lucky and the weather is still nice make a trip on the Rhine.
In the evening make a pub-crawl in the old city or the Südstadt and try the local beer Kölsch. The people in Cologne are very open, friendly and like to talk a lot, so it's easy to make friends.
Blingblingladys suggestion to go to the Carneval might come a little early as you would have to stay until February to see the Carneval.
One word of caution: November 1st is public holiday in the state of Northrhine Westphalia, where Köln is, so most shops will be closed and public transport will run on Sunday-schedule. |

You should taste a Cologne beer. It is called "Kölsch" you can get it in a bar or Bier Halle (beer hall).
In Cologne is an old and big church called Kölner Dom, you also can come to Bonn (it is not far to Cologne), the old German Capital. There you can watch the Gugenheim collection, or can go to the house in which Bethoven was born.
Enjoy Germany |

Cologne is really pleasant. Depending on what you like, I'd say a typical Cologne-trip should include strolling around the old town, having as many beers in as many different places as you can manage, eat typical things (German cuisine is superbly suited to heavy drinking and the resulting munchies), climb the cathedral's tower for a view, and maybe take a little cruise on the river, but in November, that could be closed down or pretty cold (mind you, good excuse to stay under deck and have a nice Cognac or something). You'll be looking at enjoying the Great Indoors, largely, that time of year... |
